Who runs this site

Character AI Alternatives is made by the team behind naughti.ai, one of the apps compared here. I, Maurice Groeneveld, write and edit it. I say this on every page because you should know it before you read a single comparison.

Why it exists

Since late 2025 many adults have left Character.AI: it bans adult content for everyone, added age checks, and filed for Chapter 11 on 12 October 2026. Most pages that compare its alternatives are vendor blogs ranking themselves first, lists padded with off-topic tools, or pages with prices nobody checked. I wanted one place with dated, sourced facts.

How I research, step by step

TL;DR: real searches pick the apps, vendor pages give the facts, registers show who runs each app, and conflicts are shown side by side.

I did the research for this site in October 2026 and last checked every figure on 26 October 2026.

  1. Choosing the apps. I started from real searches: Google autocomplete suggestions and US search volumes from Google Keyword Planner for “character ai alternative” and related searches. Then I read the top Google results and Reddit threads to see which apps adults actually move to. That gave six adult apps, with Character.AI as the baseline.
  2. Vendor pages first. For each app I read the pricing or subscription page, the terms of service, the privacy policy, the refund or cancellation policy and the age-verification page where one exists, and wrote down the date I read them.
  3. Who runs each app. I noted the company name and number each app publishes, looked up NaughtiAI OÜ in the Estonian e-Business Register, and flagged apps that do not clearly name an operator.
  4. Users and reviewers. I checked Trustpilot, SmartCustomer and ScamAdviser profiles, Reddit threads and named third-party reviews. Third-party figures are marked “reported” and linked.
  5. Google’s own questions. On 26 October 2026 I searched the main queries on Google in the US and read the “People also ask” questions; each page’s FAQ answers them.
  6. Gaps and conflicts. Some price pages sit behind an 18+ entry screen (OurDream AI, JuicyChat). I did not accept their terms just to read them and used named third-party sources instead. Where sources disagree, I show both figures.
  7. Official news over rumours. For Character.AI’s Chapter 11 case I rely on the company’s own update of 12 October 2026 and named news outlets, not forum posts.

What I compare

  • Same facts for every app: adult-content rules, banned topics, age checks, format, media, prices with billing period, currency systems, refunds, company and country, privacy policy, card descriptor.
  • Sources first: the vendor’s own pricing page, terms and privacy policy, then company registers, then third-party reviews, always named and dated.
  • No invented numbers: if a vendor does not publish something, I write “not stated” or “not verified”. Conflicting figures are shown side by side.
  • No scores: I do not rate apps out of 10, because a single score hides what matters to you.
  • What I did not do: I did not buy every plan or run long chat tests. I do not claim experiences I have not had.
  • Currency: prices in US dollars; euro prices converted at about 1.12 USD per euro and marked as converted.

How naughti.ai is treated

naughti.ai appears first in offer lists and has a link button because it is our product. It does not get softer rules: its weak points (no custom characters, web only, prices only after sign-up, final sales, a very young company) are on every page where it appears. Other apps have no affiliate links on this site.

What this site will not publish

Ways around age checks, filter bypasses or jailbreaks, proxy setups, or anything involving minors. Adults 18+ only.

Updates and corrections

I re-check prices and rules monthly and after any announced change. The date at the top of each page shows the last check. If you spot a mistake, tell me through the contact address in the naughti.ai support channel ([email protected]) with the page and the source, and I will correct it and note the change.
